Are you a first time client? Have some questions about how massage can help you? What can you expect during a massage/bodywork session?
What are the benefits of massage? Bodywork offers a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. Massage has physiological effects such as:
Increasing circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
Relaxing and softening injured and overused muscles.
Reducing spasms and cramping.
Increasing joint flexibility.
Releasing endorphins, the body's natural painkiller. For this reason, massage is being incorporated into treatment for chronic illness, injury and recovery from surgery to control and relieve pain.
Where will my massage take place? Your massage will be performed in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. Or if you prefer, bring in your own mp3 player to hear your choice of music!
Should I be dressed? Most massages are traditionally performed with the client unclothed (underwear is required to remain on during the session). However, you should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped for the entire session.
What should I do during the massage? Make yourself comfortable. Most people just close their eyes and drift off to sleep. Others like to talk during the session. It is entirely up to you, and please feel free to ask questions about massage in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.
Why do some massages hurt? Generally, during a massage, you should not experience any pain. Sometimes a deep tissue massage will cause a mild discomfort in particularly tight areas, but you should never be in physical pain, as this is a sign that the pressure may be too much. I encourage clients to speak up about the pressure, if it is too much or not enough.
How will I feel after the massage? Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your session.
Is tipping required? Tipping is entirely voluntary. It is considered to be an outward way of expressing inside gratitude. On average, tipping ranges from 15-20% of the service.
